Bohol Parks, Forests & Nature Reserves: 44 Protected and Semi-Protected Sites

44 places to see

This category covers real range: protected forest landscapes like the Rajah Sikatuna area around Bilar, at the more ecologically serious end, sit alongside built adventure parks like Danao’s zipline-and-canyon-swing complex, mangrove reforestation sites run by local cooperatives, and municipal view parks that are really just a landscaped hilltop with a fence. What they share is being managed, at some level, as a designated green space rather than an unmanaged natural feature.

Worth knowing before you visit: the well-known Bilar “man-made forest” along the Tagbilaran–Chocolate Hills highway is a mahogany monoculture planted in the 1960s–70s, not native forest — striking to drive through, but ecologically a plantation, and most guides don’t say so. A few of the tarsier-related sites in this category are legitimate, DENR-permitted sanctuaries with fixed group sizes and no-flash-photography rules; check for that specifically, since not every operation calling itself a sanctuary follows them.
