Bohol sits on a limestone karst platform, and the interior is riddled with the result: cave systems, sinkholes, and spring-fed cave pools spread across nearly every inland municipality. Anda’s cluster of cave pools on the eastern peninsula is the most-visited grouping — several linked by a single guided circuit — but caves this size show up as far north as Danao and as far south as Guindulman, usually with a local guide requirement and a modest environmental fee rather than any real infrastructure.
Depth of documentation varies sharply: some entries here are full show-cave writeups with access details and safety notes; others are a single paragraph noting a cave exists in a particular barangay, because that’s genuinely all the provincial inventory recorded. Bring a headlamp and closed shoes regardless of which kind you’re visiting — very few of these are lit.
CavesThe Francisco Dagohoy Cave in the mountains of Danao was a hideout during Dagohoy's 85-year revolt (1744–1829). It is remote — about a 5-km trek from barangay Magtanghoy and a two-hour drive inland — and combines spelunking with the site's rebellion history.
CavesBatungay Cave, in the forest of barangay Santo Tomas about 8 km from Trinidad town, runs more than 700 m beneath the Batungay Twin Peak, with a crystal-clear stream and stalactite/stalagmite formations. Its name comes from 'bato' (rock) and 'ngay' (twins).
