Overview
Loon Peace Park, per the Municipality of Loon’s own tourism page, marks the site where local guerrillas carried out their most successful ambush against Japanese forces during World War II. It sits on a high cliff overlooking the Moalong Bridge. The municipality commemorates the Battle of Moalong at the park every September 27.
Location
Near Loon town center, on a cliff overlooking the Moalong Bridge (BPTO source records the barangay as Canhangdon). Loon is approximately 25 km northwest of Tagbilaran City on the western coastal road.
Getting There
By car: from Tagbilaran City, take the Tagbilaran North Road heading northwest for approximately 25 km into Loon town, then follow signage to Loon Peace Park near the town center. From Tubigon Port, head southeast on the Tagbilaran North Road for about 20 km into Loon town, then follow the signs.
By bus/van: buses and vans from Tagbilaran City’s Integrated Bus Terminal to Loon take around 45 minutes; ask the driver to drop you at Loon Peace Park.
Practical Info
A public open-air historical site and viewpoint; no entrance fee is documented.
[TO ENRICH: opening hours, on-site facilities such as benches or markers, and whether an annual Battle of Moalong commemoration event is open to visitors.]
What to Expect
The site itself is unadorned: an open clifftop with the Moalong Bridge visible in the gorge below, more a place for quiet reflection than a developed viewpoint. Outside the September 27 commemoration, expect little beyond the view and the history attached to it — no gift shop, no crowd, just the cliff edge and the bridge it once overlooked as a battlefield.
