Basdacu Beach

Overview

Basdacu Beach, per the Municipality of Loon’s own tourism materials, is one of the newest and most-visited attractions in Loon — a shoreline area that was uplifted during the magnitude-7.2 Bohol earthquake of October 15, 2013, an event that exposed a stretch of beach the municipality describes as comparable to other well-known Bohol beaches. It sits along the highway in Barangay Basdacu.

Location

Basdacu barangay is on the northwestern coast of Bohol in Loon municipality, along the National Highway. Loon is approximately 25 kilometres northwest of Tagbilaran City by road. The Loon area is also known for the Church of the Nuestra Señora de la Luz and the Inang-angan Coral Stairway, which can be combined with a beach visit.

Getting There

By car: from Tagbilaran City, take the Tagbilaran North Road heading northwest for approximately 25 km; the beach is on the left as you enter Loon town. From Tubigon Port, head southeast for about 20 km; the beach is on the right.

By bus/van: buses and vans from Tagbilaran City’s Integrated Bus Terminal to Loon run frequently; the trip takes about 40–45 minutes. Ask the driver to drop you at Basdacu Beach.

By motorbike: motorbikes can be rented in Tagbilaran City or Tubigon; follow the same directions as by car.

Practical Info

• Parking: Free parking is available around Basdacu Beach.
• Calm sea conditions are most reliable between December and April.
• Entrance fee: None — the beach itself is open to the public free of charge, per the Loon Tourism Office.
• On-site facilities: Beachfront operators along the shore rent out cottages and tables (roughly ₱200–350) with no corkage fee for outside food; there is no overnight accommodation on site. Amenities beyond that (restrooms, showers) are not documented in official sources and should be confirmed on the ground.

What to Expect

The 2013 quake lifted this stretch of coastline out of the water — ground that was previously submerged or barely exposed is now the beach itself. Visitor blogs refer to sections of the same stretch by local names such as “Lawis Beach,” and a beachfront establishment called “BasBig” operates along it, suggesting the barangay’s coastline has more than one named access point or informal sub-area — worth confirming on the ground.
