Overview

Banacon Mangrove Forest is a man-made mangrove ecosystem on Banacon Island, Getafe municipality, northern Bohol. Banacon Island covers 1,775.04 hectares in total, of which 484.82 hectares consist of planted mangrove forest — claimed to be the largest man-made mangrove plantation in Asia. The island was previously barren; its mudflats were once covered with white sand before human intervention transformed the coastal margins into dense Rhizophora sp. (bakauan) forest.
