Type: Beach
Overview
Pandanon White Beach is the main beach attraction on Pandanon Island, a small island in Getafe municipality in northern Bohol. The island sits within the area of the Danajon Double Barrier Reef — one of only two double barrier reef systems in the Indo-Pacific — which accounts for the marine biodiversity of the surrounding waters. The beach is characterised by a long white sandbar and is frequently included as an island-hopping stop for tour operators from both Cebu and Bohol provinces.
Location
Pandanon Island, barangay Pandanon, municipality of Getafe, northern Bohol. The island is surrounded by the Danajon Bank reef system.
Getting There
The island is reached by boat from Getafe town on the northern coast of Bohol. Getafe is accessible from Tagbilaran by bus or van (approximately 2–2.5 hours via the Trans-Central Highway). Island-hopping tours from Cebu City and Mactan also include Pandanon as a stop. [TO ENRICH: exact boat schedule and fare from Getafe port]
Practical Info
- Activities: swimming, snorkelling, photography, beach relaxation
- Cottage rentals available on the island for day visitors to eat and rest
- No major resort development; bring cash and supplies
- Local fishermen approach visitor boats to sell fresh catch including bangus (milkfish), saang (spider shells), and tuyom/suwaki (sea urchins); fresh seafood can be grilled on the boat
What to Expect
A long sandbar defines the beach. The water is clear and shallow enough for swimming and snorkelling close to shore. The reef proximity brings fish variety to snorkelling conditions around the island. The island’s informal economy centres on the fishing families who sell fresh catch directly to day-trippers — sea urchin and milkfish are the typical offerings, and on-boat grilling is a common practice.
Notes
- Pandanon is a regular stop on Cebu island-hopping itineraries, so visitor numbers can be significant on weekends and during peak dry-season months
- The Danajon Double Barrier Reef context is ecologically significant; confirm current reef health and any protected zone rules with local operators
