Pandao Island

Overview

Pandao Island is a small island off the coast of Getafe in northern Bohol, accessible from the mainland barangay of Baud. White sand and clear water draw swimmers and snorkellers, but the visitor traffic stays mostly local — the island has none of the packaged-tour presence found on Bohol’s better-known beaches.

The approach itself is the island’s most distinctive feature: several floating native huts sit on the water along the crossing, rest houses used by seaweed farmers working the shallows. Seaweed farming for carrageenan — the gelling agent extracted from Eucheuma and Kappaphycus species — is a common coastal livelihood across Bohol’s northern barangays, and during harvest season these same huts double as collection points, giving the crossing a working-water character before the beach itself comes into view.

Location

Off the coast of Campao Occidental / Corte-baud, Getafe, northern Bohol. The mainland departure point is barangay Baud.

Getting There

From the mainland barangay of Baud, the boat crossing to Pandao Island takes approximately 20 minutes. Getafe town proper is accessible from Tagbilaran by bus or van (approximately 2–2.5 hours). [TO ENRICH: boat hire arrangements and fare from Baud]

What to Expect

There is no built infrastructure beyond the beach itself — no cottages, no vendors, nothing to rent — so visitors arrive with their own supplies and leave with them. The seaweed farms working the surrounding shallows give Pandao a distinct character among Bohol’s beach destinations: this is a place people fish and farm as much as visit.
