Momo Beach

Overview

Momo Beach is a quiet beach on the north side of Panglao Island in Barangay Tangnan, closer to Doljo Beach than to Alona — about 20 km and 40 minutes by motorized banca from Alona, or 20 minutes by road. Commercial development here is minimal: one boutique resort, Momo Beach House, works the shoreline, and Tangnan otherwise reads as a fishing barangay rather than a resort strip.

Location

Barangay Tangnan, Panglao Island, Panglao municipality, Bohol. The beach sits on the less-trafficked side of Panglao, away from the concentration of dive shops and resorts around Alona — a reminder that Panglao’s tourism boom has not reached every barangay at the same pace, and that fishing still anchors the local economy on this side of the island.

Getting There

From Tagbilaran City, cross the Panglao Bridge toward Panglao Island — approximately 30 to 40 minutes by tricycle or habal-habal to Tangnan. From Alona Beach, Momo Beach is 20 km by banca (40 minutes) or reachable by road around the island in roughly 20 minutes by motorbike.

What to Expect

A low-key beach with calm water. The main draw for divers is the adjacent wall-and-slope dive site (Momo Beach Dive Site) to 40 m, particularly good for macro subjects — nudibranchs, leaf fish, red-eyed goby, harlequin filefish, pajama cardinalfish, and juvenile wrasse are regularly sighted.

Momo Beach House runs on nature-inspired architecture: an al fresco café (Beach Tree Café), a blue pool facing the sea, hammocks strung between palm trees, and pastel-colored rooms stocked with locally sourced organic bath products. Some of the build reuses old material outright — a wine rack made from a decommissioned fishing boat is the most obvious example.
