Loon International Cruise Ship Port

Overview

The Loon International Cruise Ship Port (also called “Loon ICP” or the Catagbacan Port) is a seaport in Loon municipality first envisioned as a cruise port under President Gloria Macapagal Arroyo’s Strong Republic Nautical Highway (SRNH) program. Per the Municipality of Loon’s own tourism page, the port sits in Barangay Catagbacan Norte (this entity’s source record lists Catagbacan Handig — a neighboring barangay — flagged here as a location discrepancy to verify). Currently it hosts RORO and other vessels arriving from Cebu Province via Argao town and neighboring island barangays; the Philippine Ports Authority (PPA) has been developing it further as a future international cruise berth. As of July 2024, the ongoing infrastructure phase — begun in 2021 — was reported at roughly 90% complete, with the PPA seeking an additional estimated Php 500 million to fund a Cruise Ship Berth and a Welcome Center/Passenger Terminal Building. Bohol 2nd District Rep. Edgar Chatto has targeted completion before the end of President Bongbong Marcos’s term in 2028. The port also figures into the proposed Bohol Island Special Economic Zone (BISEZ) spanning Loon, Calape, Tubigon, and Maribojoc (House Bill 00605), intended partly to relieve congestion at the Tagbilaran City port and to route cruise and RORO traffic toward Chocolate Hills and other inland attractions.

Location

Per the Municipality of Loon, Barangay Catagbacan Norte, Loon, Bohol (this entity’s source classification lists Catagbacan Handig — flagged for verification). Loon is approximately 30–36 km northwest of Tagbilaran City along the western coastal road.

Getting There

From Tagbilaran City: take the Tagbilaran North Road northwest for approximately 36 km, following signage for the Loon International Cruiseship Port. From Tubigon Port: head southeast on the Tagbilaran North Road for about 21 km.

Practical Info

• Currently serves RORO and inter-island vessels from Cebu (via Argao) rather than regular ocean-going cruise ship calls.
• Cruise Ship Berth and Passenger Terminal Building are under development, with completion targeted around 2028.

What to Expect

An active RORO/inter-island seaport under phased expansion into a dedicated international cruise-ship facility, on Bohol’s northwest coast facing the Camotes Sea/Cebu Strait. The Church of Nuestra Señora de la Luz, one of Bohol’s heritage churches, is also in Loon municipality.
