Janlud Cave

Overview

Janlud Cave is a large limestone cave in Barangay Janlud, Batuan, Bohol. The cave contains numerous stalactites and other speleothem formations, with multiple chambers connected by passages that require visitors to crouch in sections. A bat colony inhabits the cave. From the barangay road, the cave entrance is reached after a 5–10 minute walk through the surrounding landscape.

Location

Barangay Janlud, Batuan, Bohol. Batuan is a municipality in central Bohol, approximately 55 km north of Tagbilaran City, in the same general area as the Chocolate Hills complex.

Getting There

From Tagbilaran City, travel toward Carmen and Batuan (approximately 55 km, about 1.5 hours). From Batuan town proper, proceed to Barangay Janlud. The cave entrance is a 5–10 minute walk from the barangay road.

Practical Info

• Access: guided tour, per the Batuan municipal tourism office’s published rates — ₱600 for the first person, ₱200 for each additional person; caving equipment and transportation are included. What to Expect

A large multi-chamber cave with stalactite formations throughout. Some passages between chambers are low enough that visitors must bend or crouch to proceed. Bats are present in significant numbers — visitors may hear and smell them before reaching bat-inhabited sections. The formations include stalactites of varying sizes alongside other calcite structures.
