Overview

The Villamor House and Malon House are heritage ancestral houses in Poblacion, Baclayon, recorded in the Bohol provincial tourist-attraction inventory under the History & Culture category. Baclayon is one of the oldest municipalities in Bohol, known for its Spanish colonial-era church and heritage structures in the town centre.

Both houses date to the late 19th century and are part of BAHANDI (the Baclayon Ancestral Homes Association), a homestay program that operates several of the town’s ancestral houses as paid overnight accommodation while preserving them as heritage structures.

The Villamor House was built by Ciriaco Villamor and his wife Agrifina Buhion — a hardwood, two-storey structure (ground floor originally bodega/garage, living quarters upstairs) counted among the oldest houses in town. The Malon House, also late 19th century, belonged to the Malon family; it is notable as the site of political meetings between Juan Malon and former Philippine President Carlos P. Garcia (a Boholano), and local accounts describe it as the largest of the old houses in Baclayon.

Location

Poblacion, Baclayon, Bohol, on the street leading from the main road to Baclayon Church. Baclayon is approximately 6 km east of Tagbilaran City along the coastal road. The Villamor House and Malon House are both on this street, among a row of other century-old houses, but are separate, individually owned properties rather than a single site.

Getting There

From Tagbilaran City, take a jeepney or multicab heading toward Baclayon (approx. 15–20 minutes). The Poblacion area is walkable from the Baclayon Church.

What to Expect

Both houses stand within walking distance of the Baclayon Church complex, one of the oldest stone churches in the Philippines, and share the construction logic common to ancestral houses on this street: hardwood framing, a boxy two-storey mass, and wide shuttered windows sized for cross-ventilation rather than view.

The Villamor House carries physical evidence of its age rather than a restored gloss — the wood shutters still swing on their original hardware, and traces of the house’s original green paint survive on the facade. That’s the detail that separates a maintained heritage house from a reconstructed one.
