DBP Forest

Overview

The DBP Forest is a 100-hectare upland reforestation project in Barangay Calanggaman, Ubay, Bohol. Per a 2010 Philstar report, the Development Bank of the Philippines launched the DBP Forest program nationally in 2005, and the Ubay site became its 34th individual forest project within a network covering 5,754 hectares nationwide (roughly 3,654 hectares planted at that time). Ubay was chosen specifically because the site was disaster-prone, hit by forest fires on a yearly basis before planting began. Reported tree species include mangrove, mango, rambutan, pomelo, rubber, bamboo, and narra. A key partner is the Ubay Water Service Cooperative, since the forest protects a watershed area feeding that cooperative’s water supply.

The project involves multiple government agencies and community volunteers in tree-growing activities and environmental campaigns.

Barangay Calanggaman, Ubay, Bohol. Ubay is a municipality on the eastern coast of Bohol, approximately 80 km from Tagbilaran City.

Getting There

From Tagbilaran City, take a bus or van to Ubay (approximately 2–2.5 hours on the cross-island road via Carmen). From Ubay town, hire a habal-habal to Barangay Calanggaman.

What to Expect
