Overview

Proposing a dedicated Cabawan complex rather than enlarging CPG itself suggests officials saw the Cogon site as constrained by its existing footprint in the middle of a built-up barangay — new land was easier to find than more room downtown.

For residents, the complex functions less like a competition venue most of the year and more like ordinary public recreation space — pickup basketball, walking laps around the grandstand, weekend youth leagues — with the ₱10 general entrance fee kept low enough to make regular use, rather than occasional events, the more common draw. That accessibility is itself a form of public investment in community health: cheap, walkable, multi-sport facilities like CPG carry outsized value in mid-sized Philippine cities where private gyms and pools are comparatively rare and often unaffordable for the average household.
