Overview

BBC Reef is the house reef directly in front of the Bohol Beach Club resort on Panglao Island, Bohol. It is accessible as both a dive and a snorkeling site. The reef begins at 4 meters depth and extends to 30 meters, making it suitable for beginners through experienced divers.

The topography opens with a sandy slope punctuated by coral pinnacles. At 8 meters, the first of two submerged jeepneys lies on the slope, fully encrusted with soft corals — the colorful local buses repurposed as artificial reef structures. A second jeepney, lying upside down, sits at 14 meters.

Marine life recorded at the site includes sun coral, fire dart goby, Pegasus fish, banded sea snakes, frogfish in multiple variants, saddleback anemonefish, and nudibranchs. The sandy areas around the jeepneys support additional cryptic species.

Location

Directly offshore from the Bohol Beach Club resort, Panglao Island, Panglao, Bohol. Panglao Island is connected to the Bohol mainland by bridge, approximately 20–30 minutes from Tagbilaran City.

Getting There

The reef is accessible as a house reef from the Bohol Beach Club, in Barangay Bolod, Panglao. Non-resort guests can arrange dives through dive shops in the Panglao area. Shore entry may be possible depending on the tide. Non-guests can also reach the reef without a dive operator by paying the resort’s day-use facilities fee to access its beachfront and snorkel directly from shore; one visitor account puts the fee at roughly ₱500 (₱350 of which is consumable at the resort restaurant), though this should be confirmed with the resort directly as pricing changes. What to Expect

The two submerged jeepneys are the defining feature of BBC Reef — artificial reef structures added to the sandy slope to accelerate coral colonization and concentrate marine life. The first jeepney at 8 meters is completely covered in soft corals, making it visually distinctive even for snorkelers who can approach from above. The second jeepney at 14 meters is more challenging, lying upside down, and is better suited to divers.

The broader reef slope supports a mix of macro subjects (nudibranchs, fire dart gobies, frogfish) and reef fish, including the banded sea snake which is frequently encountered but not aggressive when unprovoked.
