Bluewater Panglao Beach Resort Review: The Cantilevered Pool at Danao (2026)

Bluewater Panglao builds 82 rooms around a pool cantilevered over the shoreline. What that structure costs, why the sea here is a view rather than a swim, and who it suits.

One photograph does most of the selling for Bluewater Panglao Beach Resort: the infinity pool cantilevered out over the shoreline, its edge dissolving into the Bohol Strait. The photograph is accurate. The cantilever is real, it is structurally ambitious in a way very few Philippine resort pools are, and the property is organised around it — 82 rooms in three configurations, 46 of them positioned to look directly at it.

What the image does not tell you is the other half of the property’s logic: the sea in front of the resort is not the swim. The Danao frontage here is reef and shallow approach, and reviewers say so plainly without treating it as a complaint, because two pools absorb the demand entirely. Bluewater is a pool resort that happens to be on a beach, and it is honest about the order of those two things.

It rates Fabulous, 8.8 out of 10 — on Hostelworld, from 321 reviews. That is worth naming precisely: a Hostelworld 8.8 is drawn from a different guest population than a Booking.com 8.8, and the two are not interchangeable. Rates start from an estimated ₱6,250, a figure derived from five comparable Panglao properties at a similar score rather than fetched live, so treat it as a position and confirm the real number.

At a Glance — The Vibe Score

Architecture & Sense of Place: 9/10 — the cantilevered pool is a genuine structural decision rather than a styling one, and the rest of the property is planned around it consistently.

Quietness: 7/10 — 82 rooms with an active pool culture and a family contingent; days carry noise, evenings settle.

Value: 7.5/10 — two pools, a spa and breakfast at an upscale-but-not-luxury position, against an estimated rate that has not been fetched live.

Service: 8/10 — the same observation recurs across independent reviews, which points to a service culture rather than a few good staff.

Location & Transit: 7/10 — Danao on southern Panglao, 30–40 minutes from the airport, 15–20 from the Alona strip by tricycle, 45–60 from the Tagbilaran pier.

Beach Access: 5/10 — the honest low score on this page. Reef and shallow water make the frontage a view rather than a swimming beach.

Room Comfort: 8/10 — reviewers consistently describe generous floor plates and large bathrooms; the in-room technology has aged.

Best for: Couples and families who want the pool as the centre of the holiday, and who are content for the sea to be scenery rather than the swim.

The Architect’s Note

Sense of Place & Design

Bluewater sits on the Danao coast in southern Panglao, on a frontage where the reef comes close in and the water is shallow across the approach. Multiple reviewers note that the sea is difficult to swim here, and the property does not pretend otherwise — the two pools carry the aquatic programme, and the beach functions as the setting rather than the activity.

That honesty is the property’s strongest quality. A resort that sells a beach it cannot deliver produces a specific kind of disappointment; a resort that sells a pool and delivers an exceptional one does not. The design language through the rest of the compound is a contemporary Filipino tropical vocabulary — open-air circulation between buildings, landscape rather than corridors as the connective tissue, natural material accents against hard surfaces — which reads as specific to the setting rather than lifted from a Balinese template.

The Amuma Spa is set up to serve both house guests and day visitors, which is a commercial decision with a design consequence: the spa has to be reachable without walking day visitors through the guest core. That the property manages both without the resort feeling like a public facility is a planning success worth noting.

The position relative to Alona Beach is the same trade BE Grand makes on this coast — near enough to reach the strip’s restaurants in fifteen to twenty minutes, far enough that none of the strip’s noise arrives with them. For divers, Doljo Point sits on the same side of the island.

The Rooms

Deluxe (32 rooms)

The entry category: tiled floors, wardrobe, satellite television, a sitting area, private bathroom with bath or shower, and a balcony. Reviewer accounts consistently describe them as spacious with unusually large bathrooms — the floor plates here are generous rather than compressed to maximise room count.

Premier Deluxe Pool-view (46 rooms)

The dominant category at 56% of the inventory, positioned so the cantilevered pool sits on the balcony’s main axis. The premium on these rooms buys a specific thing: continuous visual access to the architectural feature the property is built around. If the pool is the reason for the trip, this is the category that matches the reason.

Family Loft (4 units)

The top category and the largest format, multi-level, aimed at families and groups needing volume rather than another view. Four units is a deliberately small allocation — enough to serve the family market without shifting the property’s demographic centre.

One dated detail worth knowing: the room amenity list still includes an iPod dock, which places this fit-out in a mid-2010s cycle. The audio hardware has aged; the room dimensions and bathrooms, by reviewer account, have not. Room sizes are not published in a form we can verify, so no square-metre figures appear here.

Location & Connectivity

Danao puts Bluewater in the same southern coastal band as the other large Panglao compounds. Bohol–Panglao International Airport is roughly 30–40 minutes by road. The Tagbilaran ferry pier is 45–60 minutes, which is the longer leg — a guest arriving by fast craft from Cebu should budget an hour to the room.

The Alona strip is 15–20 minutes by tricycle. That distance is the point: it gives a guest access to Alona’s restaurants and dive operators in the evening without committing to sleeping on a strip that stays loud well past dinner.

The water in front of the resort is the Bohol Strait, with Cebu across it. On a clear day the horizon runs a long way, which is exactly the surface the pool cantilever is engineered to meet. For the countryside circuit — the Chocolate Hills, the tarsier sanctuary, the Loboc River — this is a workable base, with the caveat that the round trip takes most of a day from anywhere on Panglao.

Dining & Service

The restaurant delivers breakfast with a sea outlook and a menu broad enough to survive a multi-night stay. Reviewer accounts describe good variety, with a minority noting the breakfast selection as adequate rather than extensive — which reads as a buffet that is well executed within a defined scope rather than an expansive one.

The Amuma Spa runs a full treatment menu and is bookable by non-residents as well as house guests. That the operator is confident enough to sell it to the outside market says something about the product; it also means treatment slots compete with day visitors, so book early in the stay rather than late.

Service is the property’s documented second strength. The same observation — staff who are consistently warm and consistently present — recurs across independent review sources, and a pattern that stable across a large sample usually reflects management culture rather than individual effort. For a resort whose first sale is made by a photograph, service is what converts a one-night booking into an extended one.

A Day at Bluewater Panglao

Early morning is the cantilevered pool at its best, before the loungers fill and while the light is still low across the strait. Reviewers who care about the photograph get it then; everyone else gets a quiet swim.

Through the middle of the day the two-pool arrangement does its work — the second pool absorbs the family and child energy, leaving the cantilever comparatively calm. That separation is the reason the property can serve both markets without either one ruining the other’s holiday.

Late afternoon is the tricycle to Alona for dinner, or the spa, or neither. Evenings on the property are quiet: the Danao position means nothing arrives from the strip, and the compound settles early.

Bluewater Panglao vs Bohol Beach Club

Bohol Beach Club rates 9.2 on Booking.com from 910 reviews at ₱7,400, on the Bolod sand.

This comparison is decided by what you want the water to be. Bohol Beach Club has the swimming beach that Bluewater’s frontage cannot offer, and a deeper Booking.com review base behind a higher score. Bluewater has the better pool by a wide margin, and a lower estimated rate. A family whose children will be in the sea should book Bohol Beach Club. A couple or family who will be in a pool regardless will get more from Bluewater, and should not pay a beachfront premium for sand they will not swim off.

Bluewater Panglao vs Modala Beach Resort

Modala sits on the Doljo coast at 9.1 from 607 reviews, with a live-fetched ₱6,253 — effectively the same money as Bluewater’s estimate.

At similar rates this becomes a straight product choice. Modala is the quieter, more spread-out leisure-village layout on a calmer stretch; Bluewater is the tighter, pool-centred compound with a single dominant architectural feature. Modala’s price is a live figure, which makes it the more reliable number to plan against. Bluewater’s argument is the cantilever — if that pool is why the trip is happening, nothing on this coast substitutes for it.

Best For — Be Honest

Book here if you are:

  • Booking for the pool, and clear-eyed that it is the reason rather than a bonus
  • A family who wants a second pool to absorb the children while the main one stays calm
  • Happy to reach Alona in fifteen minutes rather than sleep beside it
  • After a resort that is honest about its own frontage rather than selling a beach it does not have

Look elsewhere if you are:

  • Expecting to swim in the sea from the resort — the reef and shallow approach rule that out here
  • Seeking quiet at midday; 82 rooms around two pools generates noise by design
  • Planning around the ₱6,250 figure as a quote; it is an estimate from comparable properties, not a fetched rate
  • Weighing the 8.8 score as if it were a Booking.com number — it is Hostelworld, and the population differs

Is Bluewater Panglao Beach Resort Right For You?

Bluewater makes one structural decision and organises everything else around it. The cantilevered pool is a real piece of engineering rather than a marketing image, more than half the rooms are positioned to look at it, and the property is candid that the reef frontage in front of it is scenery rather than a swim. That combination — an ambitious central feature and honesty about what surrounds it — is the case for booking here.

The reservations are the ones the property’s own data raises: the score comes from Hostelworld rather than Booking.com, the rate on file is an estimate rather than a live figure, and the room fit-out is a decade into its cycle. None of those undo the pool. All of them are worth checking before the money moves.
