Naasug Cliff

Type: Nature

Overview

Naasug Cliff is a coastal rock wall in Barangay Marcelo, Mabini, on Bohol’s southeastern coast, rising directly out of the sea. Like much of Bohol, this coastline sits on limestone raised by long-term tectonic uplift — the same geological process behind the Chocolate Hills inland — so the cliff face here reads as bare rock cut by wave action rather than a soil slope. Trees line the top and face of the wall, breaking the stone with green cover, and the water below is visibly clear against it. Viewing the formation at full scale means approaching by boat.

Location

The cliff is in Barangay Marcelo, Mabini, facing the Mindanao Sea. Marcelo Seawall Bay is in the same barangay. Mabini is approximately 90 kilometres southeast of Tagbilaran City, on the tip of the southeastern peninsula of Bohol.

Getting There

From Tagbilaran City, take a bus or van headed to Mabini along the south coastal road. Travel time is approximately 2 hours. From the Mabini town proper or Barangay Marcelo, hire a boat to approach the cliff from the water.

Practical Info

  • Municipality: Mabini, Bohol
  • Barangay: Marcelo
  • Classification: Seascape (BPTO DOT taxonomy)
  • Access: Boat ride recommended for full view of the cliff face

[TO ENRICH: Cliff height, diving depths at the base, and any organised boat tours require verification.]

What to Expect

From a boat, the vertical wall and its full drop to the sea come into view — height and extent that aren’t apparent from the shore. Mabini’s organised tourism runs mainly to its dive sites (Intermedio, Kambaki); the cliff itself draws far fewer visitors, which keeps the approach by water quiet.

Notes

The source narrative uses the phrase “hidden gem” in reference to this cliff — that phrasing has been removed per editorial guidelines. The cliff is described as a boat-access seascape attraction in Barangay Marcelo.
