Mundong Sandbar

Overview

Mundong Sandbar is a white sandbar in the Camotes Sea, positioned in the channel between Cebu and Bohol. It falls under the jurisdiction of Tubigon municipality, specifically the island barangay of Bagongbanwa. The name “Mundong” comes from its original shape, which resembled a large mundo — the Visayan word for mound — of pale, fine sand.

The sandbar surfaces at low tide, extending as a long, curving strip amid clear water. It draws both locals and foreign visitors.

Location

Mundong Sandbar is in the island barangay of Bagongbanwa, Tubigon, in northwestern Bohol. The sandbar sits in open water between Bohol and Cebu. Tubigon itself is the main port of entry for fast-craft ferries from Cebu City.

Getting There

From Tubigon port, a boat ride to the sandbar takes approximately 30 to 45 minutes. Arrange a boat from the Tubigon municipal port.

From Tagbilaran City to Tubigon: approximately 1 hour by bus or van along the north coastal road.

From Cebu City: fast-craft ferries to Tubigon run regularly; travel time is approximately 1.5 to 2 hours.

What to Expect

The sandbar is a long, winding strip of white sand in open water, with clear surrounding sea. It functions as a day-trip destination — visitors wade, swim, and picnic on the exposed sand during low tide. Tubigon municipality also has the Dumog Sandbar, making the area a concentration of sandbar formations along Bohol’s northwest coast.
