Island City Mall

Overview

Island City Mall is a shopping mall on Rajah Sikatuna Avenue in Barangay Dao (BPTO records the area as Dampas, adjoining Dao), Tagbilaran City, Bohol. It opened in 2004 and has since won multiple Philippine Retailers Association “Shopping Center of the Year” awards. It is one of the main enclosed retail venues in the provincial capital and is listed in the provincial tourist-attraction inventory under Shopping — Malls and Department Stores.

Anchor tenants include a supermarket, Abenson, Power Mac Center, and fashion brands Guess, Levi’s, and Nike. Facilities include a cinema with Dolby Digital Surround EX sound, a “Foodwalk” dining strip (Jollibee, Chowking, KFC, Greenwich, The Prawn Farm), a “World of Fun” games and kiddie-rides area, a fresh market with dedicated meat, poultry, and seafood sections, and home, fashion, and furniture departments. Two decades of Philippine Retailers Association recognition put Island City Mall in a different competitive position than Tagbilaran’s newer entrants, Alta Citta Mall and Alturas Mall, both developed later by the Alturas Group a few kilometres away in Poblacion II. A city Tagbilaran’s size supporting three enclosed malls plus Bohol Quality Mall points to a retail base larger than the resident population alone would suggest — a share of that spending comes from Panglao-bound tourists routing through the capital, and from residents of surrounding municipalities who travel into the city specifically to shop, bank, and see a film, since none of those services exist at the same scale in the towns further inland.

Location

Barangay Dampas, Tagbilaran City, Bohol. Dampas is a barangay in the northeastern part of Tagbilaran City, adjacent to the city’s hospital district. The mall is near both the Medical Mission Group Hospital and Holy Name University Medical Center.

Getting There

From Tagbilaran’s city center or port, take a tricycle or habal-habal to Barangay Dampas. The mall is accessible from the main Tagbilaran City road network.

The mall sits on Rajah Sikatuna Avenue beside the Tagbilaran Public Market and the Tagbilaran City Integrated Bus Terminal, and functions as a terminus for a number of jeepney routes within the city and to neighboring towns; standard jeepney fare is ₱10 for the first 4 km plus ₱1 per additional km, and tricycle fare runs about ₱8 per person. What to Expect

A conventional provincial city mall offering retail, food, and service options in an air-conditioned setting. For travelers spending time in Tagbilaran between island tours or ferry connections, Island City Mall provides basic provisioning and rest facilities.

Per the mall’s own website, Foodwalk tenants are national fast-food chains — Jollibee, Chowking, KFC, Greenwich, and Rai-Rai Ken — plus The Prawn Farm seafood restaurant; no dedicated Bohol delicacy brand such as Dalareich Chocolate House is listed among the mall’s tenants. The Prawn Farm is the closest thing to a distinctly Visayan menu inside the mall, serving grilled and steamed seafood in a casual sit-down format rather than the fast-food counters that fill the rest of Foodwalk. For actual Boholano specialties — kalamay, dried mangoes, peanut kisses, or a whole roasted lechon — the fresh market’s meat and seafood sections cover the raw ingredients, but the packaged pasalubong trade itself is concentrated elsewhere in the city, at shops along CPG Avenue and at Manga Public Market.
