Overview

The Francisco Dagohoy Marker stands in Barangay Magtangtang, Danao, at the site where Francisco Dagohoy — the Boholano leader of the Philippines’ longest revolt against Spanish colonial rule — established his headquarters and mounted his resistance for 85 years, from 1744 to 1829.

The marker is positioned on a plateau in the Magtangtang area, installed by the Philippine Historical Commission to formally recognise the site’s place in Philippine history. It commemorates Dagohoy and the hundreds of men who fought alongside him, many of whom chose to die inside the nearby cave rather than surrender to Spanish forces.

The surrounding park provides a quiet setting for reflection on the rebellion’s significance. The elevated plateau offers views over the mountain ranges of Inabanga and Talibon.

Getting There

Danao is accessible from Tagbilaran City via Carmen — approximately 1.5–2 hours by private vehicle. From Danao poblacion, barangay transport (habal-habal) serves Magtangtang.
