Camambugan Airport

Overview

Camambugan Airport is a dormant community airport in Barangay Camambugan, Ubay, in the northeastern corner of Bohol. The Civil Aviation Authority of the Philippines (CAAP) classifies it as a community airport. It covers 54 hectares but currently has no scheduled air service and no passenger facilities.

The airstrip was originally constructed by American forces prior to World War II and was used operationally during the war. Since then, only light aircraft have been permitted to land. The airport grounds are listed in the BPTO inventory under “Cycling Road and Area” — an indication that the unused runway and surrounding land are utilised by residents for cycling and recreational activity.

Legislators have filed House Bill No. 2437 seeking to upgrade the facility to accommodate domestic commercial flights. Proponents argue that commercial air access to Ubay would stimulate economic development in the northern Bohol area and reduce overland travel time for residents who currently face a four-to-five-hour road trip to Tagbilaran.

Getting There

Ubay is accessible from Tagbilaran by bus or van (approximately 4 to 5 hours overland). There is no air service to the airport at present. A ferry connection exists between Ubay and Cebu (via Isabel, Leyte) for those approaching from Visayas.
