Busay Falls

Overview

Busay Falls is a waterfall on the Loboc River, Loboc municipality, recorded in the Bohol Provincial Tourism Office (BPTO) inventory under “Nature / Falls.” It is a distinct site from Busai Dream Falls, a separate fee-charging swimming falls in Barangay Quinogitan, also within Loboc — the names are close enough to cause real confusion, so keep the two apart.

Multiple independent current sources — the official Philippine Travel App, tour operators, first-hand visitor accounts — consistently place “Busay Falls” as the small cascade marking the turnaround point of the Loboc River Cruise: boats run upriver from the Loboc Tourism Complex or Loay Bridge landing, reach the falls, and turn back downstream. It is also visible from above on the Loboc Ecotourism Adventure Park’s zipline and cable car. This access pattern differs from the barangay-road/trail access originally logged for this entity — see the reconciliation note below.

The falls itself runs modest: one first-hand account (phtourguide.com) puts it at about a metre in height, with the pool elsewhere described as roughly 12 by 4 metres. It draws local children for bathing and, for cruise passengers who disembark or paddle over, a shallow stop to swim.

Location

On the Loboc River, upstream from the main cruise landings in Loboc municipality, Bohol. The BPTO inventory lists the falls under Barangay Quinogitan; current tourism and visitor sources consistently place the accessible/visited waterfall at the Loboc River Cruise turnaround point rather than describing separate barangay-road access — see Notes.

Getting There

The falls is reached by the Loboc River Cruise floating-restaurant boat from either the Loboc Tourism Complex (Poblacion Sawang) or the Loay Bridge landing — no separate road or trail access point is documented in current sources. It can also be viewed from above via the zipline or cable car at the Loboc Ecotourism Adventure Park, which crosses the river gorge near the falls. One first-hand adventure-travel account describes an unofficial, guide-led scramble down to the base of the falls from the zipline station, explicitly noting the route “wasn’t designed for people to go down to” and “is not an offering by the tourism office or any private resort” — i.e. not a standing public trail. No source found documents an official standalone road or trail approach to the falls, so the barangay-road/trail access originally logged by BPTO for Quinogitan has not been corroborated by any current source (see Notes).

Practical Info

No separate entrance fee is documented for viewing the falls from the river cruise — it is included in the standard Loboc River Cruise fare (see the Loboc River entity for current pricing). A dedicated hike-in tour package combining a river cruise with a guided approach to the falls has been offered by at least one local operator at approximately ₱600 per person, though this may overlap with the standard cruise experience rather than being a separate site. No standalone, publicly bookable trail/entrance-fee arrangement outside the cruise is documented in any official or first-hand source: the one known off-trail route to the falls (a scramble down from the zipline station — see Getting There) is arranged privately through an individual guide and is explicitly described by the source who documented it as not a tourism-office or resort offering, with no published entrance fee.

What to Expect

A modest cascade, about a metre in height, with a pool running roughly 12 by 4 metres, framed by rock and green riverside growth. Local children swim here regularly, jumping from the overhanging coconut trees. Cruise passengers mostly see it from the boat as it turns around, though some operators work in a brief stop for photos or a dip before the run back downstream.

Reconciliation note: The original BPTO-sourced entry for this entity placed Busay Falls in Barangay Quinogitan with trail/habal-habal access separate from the river cruise. Current, consistent, multi-source reporting (official tourism app, tour operators, and first-hand accounts) instead describes “Busay Falls” as the small waterfall at the Loboc River Cruise turnaround point, reached only by boat (or viewed from the zipline/cable car above) — not by road. Since “busay” is a generic Cebuano/Boholano term for a cascade or waterfall and appears at multiple sites across Bohol, it is possible the BPTO inventory entry and the well-documented cruise-turnaround waterfall are the same feature under different access descriptions, or that a second, separate Quinogitan waterfall of the same generic name exists. This should be confirmed against BPTO field data before treating the two descriptions as fully reconciled.

Spelling note: “Bosay Falls” or “Bosay” are variant spellings found in informal listings and some local signage. The correct form per the BPTO inventory is Busay Falls.
