Moalboal has no port. That single fact shapes every honest answer to this question, and it is why you will not find a Moalboal–Bohol ferry no matter how the search results are phrased. The town’s economy runs on its reef and the sardine run just offshore at Panagsama; it was never built around a terminal the way Tagbilaran or Cebu’s port complex were.

So the trip is a combination, and there are two real versions of it. Travel in Bohol runs a direct door-to-pier transfer, twice daily at 07:00 and 12:00, taking about six hours to Tagbilaran Pier as a single booking. Or you break the trip yourself: a Ceres Liner bus up to Cebu, then a fast craft across.

The totals land closer together than they look. The real difference is who manages the connection.

Moalboal → Bohol

The direct transfer. Travel in Bohol’s 07:00 and 12:00 departures carry you from Moalboal to Tagbilaran Pier as one arrangement — no managing a Cebu-side connection with bags in tow. The tradeoff is a longer total time than splitting the trip yourself and a higher bundled fare. The six-hour figure assumes normal traffic on the south-coast highway past Barili; during Sinulog, Holy Week, or a long weekend, add to it.

Breaking the trip. A Ceres Liner bus from Moalboal to Cebu South Bus Terminal runs every 30 to 45 minutes between roughly 05:00 and 19:00, taking 2.5 to 3 hours for ₱120 ordinary or ₱140 air-conditioned. The terminal is on N. Bacalso Avenue beside Elizabeth Mall, and from there it is a 10 to 35 minute Grab ride to Cebu Pier depending on traffic — ride-hailing does work in Cebu, unlike in Bohol. Then a fast craft to Tagbilaran, about two hours, with OceanJet’s roughly hourly schedule giving you the most flexibility.

Neither pickup point in Moalboal is a terminal. Both the transfer and the bus collect from the town centre or the nearby resort strip — confirm your exact pickup at booking rather than on the day.

Bohol → Moalboal

Reversed, the logic holds but the timing gets tighter, because the last useful Ceres departure south out of Cebu sets your deadline rather than the ferry does. Take a morning fast craft from Tagbilaran Pier to Cebu Pier 1, allow for the cross-city transfer to the South Bus Terminal, and you have the afternoon bus board to work with.

Coming from Panglao, add 30 to 45 minutes to reach Tagbilaran Pier — and remember there is no Grab anywhere in Bohol province, so that transfer needs arranging in advance. It is the leg most likely to make you miss a sailing.

Ports and pickup points

  • Moalboal — no formal terminal. Transfers and buses pick up from the town centre or the resort strip at Panagsama.
  • Cebu South Bus Terminal — N. Bacalso Avenue, beside Elizabeth Mall. This is the southern-Cebu terminal, not the northern one; getting the wrong terminal is a common and expensive mistake.
  • Tagbilaran Pier — the Bohol end, inside the city, about 30 to 45 minutes from Panglao and Alona Beach.

What it actually costs

The direct transfer bundles everything into one fare, which simplifies budgeting and generally costs more than doing it in pieces.

Breaking the trip runs roughly ₱120–140 for the Moalboal–Cebu bus, plus an indicative ₱790–1,410 for the Cebu–Tagbilaran fast craft depending on class, plus small-bills terminal fees at both the bus terminal and the pier. For a solo traveller with one bag the saving is real. For two people with dive gear, the direct transfer starts to look like the better trade.

How to book

  1. Direct: search “Moalboal to Tagbilaran” on 12Go and book the 07:00 or 12:00 with Travel in Bohol.
  2. Break the trip: take the Ceres bus — paying on board is standard on a weekday — then book the Cebu–Tagbilaran ferry separately, in advance for weekends and holidays.
  3. Confirm your Moalboal pickup point at booking. There is no terminal to default to.
  4. Print your ferry ticket for the Cebu leg; several operators decline phone screens at the pier.
  5. Add buffer during Sinulog, Holy Week and long weekends — both the highway and the ferry board get busier.

Frequently asked questions

Is there a ferry from Moalboal to Bohol?

No. Moalboal has no port. Every route is either a bundled road-and-ferry transfer or a bus to Cebu followed by a fast craft.

Is there a direct way to get from Moalboal to Bohol?

Yes — Travel in Bohol runs a door-to-pier transfer at 07:00 and 12:00, about six hours to Tagbilaran Pier as a single booking.

What is the cheaper option?

A Ceres Liner bus to Cebu South Bus Terminal (2.5–3 hours, ₱120–140), then a fast craft to Tagbilaran (about two hours, indicatively ₱790–1,410). Less money, more departures, but you manage the connection.

How long does the whole trip take?

About six hours on the direct transfer. Breaking the trip lands close to the same total once the cross-city pier transfer in Cebu is counted.

Where does the transfer arrive in Bohol?

Tagbilaran Pier, in the centre of the capital, close to onward transport for Panglao, Alona Beach and the rest of the province.

Do I need to book in advance?

For the direct transfer, yes — it is two scheduled departures a day. The Ceres bus runs frequently enough for same-day travel outside holiday periods.
