Rudy Rock Dive Site

Overview

Rudy Rock is a wall dive on the west side of Panglao Island, accessible from Alona Beach and rated for PADI Open Water divers and above; the shallow upper section, 3 to 5 meters, is workable for snorkelers too. The site is not affected by dynamite fishing, worth noting on a coastline where blast damage has scarred plenty of reef over the decades.

The wall runs along a directional axis: divers entering from the Black Forest side keep the wall on the left shoulder, divers heading toward the resort keep it on the right.

Getting There

From Alona Beach, arrange a banca boat through any dive shop or resort. Rudy Rock is a short boat ride from Alona Beach, typically grouped with neighbouring west-Panglao wall sites such as Black Forest and Rico’s Wall. Current 0–2 knots; manageable for Open Water divers.

What to Expect

A wall dive with a productive mid-water zone around 15 meters — the depth divers and dive masters here tend to name first. The upper section (3–5 m) lets snorkelers cover the reef top without descending. The wall connects directionally to Black Forest at one end, and the site sits within the broader west Panglao wall system alongside Rico’s Wall and Cathedral — part of the same stretch of coast that borders the Danajon Bank, one of only a handful of double barrier reefs recorded worldwide and a system that has carried decades of both overfishing pressure and, more recently, community-led protection.
