Eskaya Tribe

The Eskaya Tribe is an indigenous group formally recognised as an Indigenous Cultural Community under the Indigenous Peoples’ Rights Act (IPRA) of 1997. Their communities sit in the interior of Guindulman and Duero and a handful of neighbouring towns. They speak Eskayan, a language whose grammar bears no structural resemblance to Cebuano and is spoken only within the tribe.
The Eskaya are regarded as Bohol’s only living intangible heritage, and their communities are listed among the geosites of the Bohol Island Geopark.
