Cabantian Marine Sanctuary

Overview

Cabantian Marine Sanctuary is a protected marine area in Barangay Cabantian, Guindulman. The water runs clear over a seabed that’s primarily seagrass — the habitat type that anchors the sardine schools and sea turtles documented here. Snorkeling, diving, and swimming are all viable in the area.

The access road is rocky, which caps vehicle traffic and keeps the sanctuary quieter than Bohol’s more developed marine sites.

Location

Barangay Cabantian, Guindulman, Bohol. Guindulman is on the southeastern coast of Bohol, between Jagna and Anda. The Ambush 1994 Heroes Monument is in the vicinity.

Getting There

Guindulman is roughly 60–70 km from Tagbilaran City, accessible by bus or van heading toward Anda or Jagna and alighting at Guindulman junction. Southern Star Bus Transit runs daily trips from the Dao Integrated Bus Terminal in Tagbilaran City to Guindulman, taking about 2 hours with a fare of roughly ₱160–170. From the main road, a habal-habal can reach Cabantian barangay, though the final road to the sanctuary is rocky.

What to Expect

A low-key marine sanctuary built around seagrass beds — the habitat that supports its turtle population and draws sea turtle and sardine sightings for snorkelers. The rocky approach road keeps visitor traffic mostly to motorbikes and habal-habal, part of why the site stays uncrowded.

Guindulman also has Basdio Marine Sanctuary, so a stop here can pair with a second marine site in the same trip.
